SC Magazine Recognizes Axway and Tumbleweed
for Innovation in Email Security
Acknowledged as Industry Innovator for Data Protection,
Axway’s MailGate Product Provides Strategic Email Security
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. and REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – February 3, 2009 – Axway, the leading global provider of multi-enterprise solutions and infrastructure, today announced SC Magazine named the company an Industry Innovator for Email Security for the Tumbleweed MailGate email security product’s strong data protection capabilities.
SC Magazine, a leading publication for IT security professionals, scoured the industry for aggressively customer-driven companies that develop products to best suit customer needs. In addition, chosen innovators had a clear product roadmap and made product modifications as needed to stay ahead of the curve.
Peter Stephenson of SC Labs selected Tumbleweed, now part of Axway, as an Industry Innovator in Email Security, specifically for the MailGate product’s strong data protection capabilities. MailGate, a comprehensive, high-performance email security solution, can process close to two million messages per hour. Through its unrivaled content filtering, policy management, anti-virus, anti-spam, and “intelligent” edge defense, MailGate protects against fast-moving virus outbreaks, botnets, spam, and denial-of-service attacks – eliminating up to 90 percent of email traffic before it enters the network.
“Customers' biggest drivers include compliance and risk management. In that regard, email poses a significant risk because of what it can do and how it is used,” said Peter Stephenson of SC Labs, SC Magazine’s testing facility for product reviews. “Tumbleweed tries to get IT managers to think more strategically and tries to leverage other ecosystems within the enterprise, not just email.”
As spam levels continue to rise – expected to reach nearly 95% in 2009 – Axway has maintained a strong focus on protecting customers from inbound and outbound threats since its acquisition of Tumbleweed in September 2008. In addition to protection against growing spam threats, Axway’s MailGate product prevents accidental email data leakage, which recent industry reports estimate is now up almost 50%.
“Now that Tumbleweed is part of Axway, we’re focusing an even larger organization to protect corporations against spam and outbound data leakage -- accolades like this emphasize our commitment to our customers,” said Joe Fisher, senior vice president of product and solutions marketing at Axway. “As leaders in email security, we are dedicated to developing superior, comprehensive products to effectively manage and protect business-critical communications.”
